Hello, friend, it's time we met
And made our differences clear.
Perhaps then we'll come to terms
With the grievances of years.

I'll start outside for that us where
We seem to clash the most.
You gladly drive all friends away
While I'm a willing host.

A long sigh of relief you breathe
Whenever you're alone,
But if I'm alone the walls close in
And make a mockery of home.

You look on life of loneliness
With eagerness and peace,
While dread fills me at the thought
Should solitude never cease.

Friend, please allow me answer,
Know this, I'm not alone.
Though burdened am I with your cries,
To God's own side I'm sewn.

And also you do hold me back
From all I might discover.
The endless world that calls me
Hence, I may never uncover.

You would leave your family, friends,
And go forth to see the world,
But change gnaws at me and in my heart
The leaves of tears unfold.

For you it's easy to say farewell,
While goodbyes grate at my ears.
I'd love to freeze these times in place
While that's your greatest fear.

Well then allow my heartless self
To turn your thoughts inside.
When you look into your future
You must feel so alive.

When I look there I do indeed
See solitude and rain,
But also I see loving arms
And comfort through the pain.

How can you paint the future such,
When you know what I saw:
That we must simply accept the pain
And soldier through it all.

My suffering has made me strong
But I dare not cling to hope.
I'll take each day as it comes swift
And bend under life's great load.

See there you're quite mistaken,
For no bending is required.
If you'd straighten up you'd notice
The colors of sunrise!

Can't you see them endless run!
The mountaintops alight!
But you'd rather stand upon the beach,
Bathed in starshine bright.

And there is nothing wrong with that
Nor I suppose, your way,
Except that you won't leave me be
And take your leave today.

I do not know why we are bound
To stay in this same space,
But somehow we must reconcile
If we're to run this race.

But how, for we are opposite!
Which shall bear the eyes?
To whom shall we give the tongue,
The ears, to you or I?

All I know is that we can't
Have this struggle last a day.
It drinks up all our energy--

But we have naught to say!

We cannot exist together
And yet it seems we must.
You'll have to learn to love me
If I'm to gain your trust.

I do love you, and that is why
I can't tear myself away.
We're bound together for all time,
It seems the only way.

Well I'm glad we had this talk,
And in our
differences delved.
But now we must end this discourse, for
Only crazy people talk to themselves.
If you think you are insane, is that proof of sanity?
